Chemistry Laboratory Technician

About the Role:

We have a current opening for a Chemistry Lab Technician and are actively reviewing applications.

 

Working in the Chemistry Laboratory at Ferrero Canada, the successful candidate will conduct chemistry analysis of raw materials, in-process and finished products to evaluate quality and ensure the safety of food products entering the marketplace.

Main Responsibilities:

•    Performs chemical analysis of raw ingredients, in-process and finished products to ensure quality, food safety and nutritional value.
•    Ensures that all analysis is carried out in compliance with Safety policies, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP/GLP), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and the Group’s standard.
•    Operate and maintain laboratory equipment and apparatus and prepare solutions, reagents, and sample formulations.
•    Analyzes products for flavor, texture, color, nutritional content, and adherence to government and industry standards.
•    Taste test (organoleptic) raw materials, semi-finished and finished products as requested.
•    Ensure that chemistry results are verified and reported in excel and/or SAP format.
•    Provides technical support in the area of Chemistry to the Manufacturing and Technology departments, in order resolve problems in product in production. 
•    Actively participate in all required analytical investigations
•    Participates in internal and external audits as required. 
•    Acts as a subject matter expert and may assist in providing training for production staff (sampling, swabbing etc.)
•    Perform validation, analysis, data processing, and reporting of specific projects as required.
•    Performs annual proficiency testing (Ring Test) on all analysis deemed competent.
•    Conduct environmental swabbing in production as required.
•    Performs other duties as assigned by the Laboratory Supervisor, to support production.

About You:

•    Degree in Chemistry, food science or related technical field 
•    1-3 years industry experience working in a laboratory within the food processing or similar industry
•    Knowledge of the chemical composition, structure, and properties of substances and of the chemical processes and transformations that they undergo. This includes uses of chemicals and their interactions, danger signs, production techniques, and disposal methods.
•    Working knowledge of lab equipment such as NIR, GC and HPLC
•    Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
•    GMP/GLP’s and HACCP, etc.
•    Computer proficiency with MS Office programs
•    Experience with SAP would be an asset
•    Must be available for 12 hour continental afternoon shift.

The base salary range for this position is $63,500 - $84,900 annually. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This range represents the anticipated salary for this position at this time.

In addition to base salary, we offer a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement plans, paid time off, and other benefits.
