Senior HR Generalist

Main Responsibilities:

Employee Relations

  • Collaborate with supervisors/managers and employees to resolve employee relations issues; guides decision making process, prepares/helps prepare corrective actions, facilitates involuntary terminations and communications.  Understands and applies employment standards requirements / legislation for consistency, compliance and efficiency within the organization.
  • Provide employee relations support and coaching to Production Management employee base in effective Human Resources practices such as attendance, harassment investigations, recruitment, and other duties as required. Recommend employee relations practices necessary to establish a positive employer-employee relationship and promote a high level of employee morale and motivation.
  • Conduct investigations when employee complaints or concerns are brought forth.
  • Advise managers/supervisors about the steps in the progressive discipline system of the Company. Counsels managers/supervisors on employment issues.
  • Conduct exit interviews



Labor Relations

  • Establish and Maintain effective “win – win” working relationships with (and between) managers, employees and the four (4) unions (where applicable).
  • Maintain relationships with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Promote and foster an environment of open communication and honest, candid feedback.
  • Handles grievances, arbitrations and participate in collective agreement negotiation

Employee Performance Management

  • Ensures New Employee Progress reports and annual performance evaluations are completed and assist/coach supervisors/managers when required
  • Participate in employee coaching sessions
  • Assist managers/supervisors with the preparation of employee development plans and ensure consistent monitoring of those plans




  • Review resumes, conduct interviews and reference checks and make recommendation to hire for internal and external candidates for production staffing.
  • Coordinate factory communication and assist with employee issues and continuous improvement suggestions.
  • Monitor the organizational culture so that it supports the attainment of the company's goals and promotes employee satisfaction.
  • Participate and/or manage Employee Initiatives and Corporate Social Responsibility Initiatives within the Bloomington area
  • Research community services and educate employees on such services

Quality and Food Safety

  • Ensure all program requirements/standards regarding quality and food safety are implemented, practiced and maintained
About the Role:

The Sr. Human Resources Generalist is responsible for developing and building strong relationships with the designated operational units and employee group and will support Management/Supervisors with respect to the following: employee relations, Labor Relations, HR policies and procedures, performance management, recruitment and selection & training and development.

Who we are looking for:
  • A Bachelors degree with a preferred specialization in Human Resources/Labour Relations.
  • 5 years (or more) Solid generalist experience in a HR Generalist or Labor Relations role in a Manufacturing Plant with a particular emphasis on Recruitment and Retention, Employee Relations, labor relations and Employee Communications.
  • Strong knowledge of employment laws and practices.
  • Excellent computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and sensitive information.
  • Ability to securing commitment and support of management for human resources initiatives.
  • Experience in implementing human resources programs in a constantly changing, dynamic environment
  • Proven skill in conflict resolution, with solid problem-solving and group facilitation skills.
  • Strong professional image, ethical standards, integrity, and objectivity. 
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of staff.   Hands on approach.
  • Able to work effectively with partners and staff on projects, office events and activities towards maintaining/strengthening our culture.


  • Mediation/arbitration/grievance processes support preferred;
  • Experience in a union environment (contract/CBA interpretation)
