About the Role:

Ferrero is actively seeking a Health & Safety Advisor in our Alfreton, Derbyshire site. In this role, you will offer guidance and support on Health and Safety issues across all regional activities. Your responsibilities include overseeing the management and reduction of H&S incidents at the Alfreton Plant, as well as coordinating with insurance companies on relevant issues. You will also ensure the implementation of accurate risk monitoring practices, and the development and revision of policies and procedures related to Health & Safety, increasing awareness through training and development requirements.

Main Responsibilities:

As a Health & Safety Officer, your primary responsibilities encompass a broad range of duties aimed at ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all personnel on site. Your role is pivotal in identifying, evaluating, and mitigating health and safety risks, ensuring that all activities align with regional Health & Safety (H&S) objectives and guidelines while collaborating closely with key stakeholders. Be instrumental in facilitating incident investigations to uncover root causes and develop comprehensive action plans, as well as staying updated on and maintaining an overview of Health and Safety regulations applicable to the site.

Your duties extend to working with stakeholders to ensure full compliance with regulatory and regional requirements, including the preparation and submission of necessary documentation. Ensure an effective process is in place for new starters, agency workers and contractors receive a suitable safety induction in a timely manner. This involves monitoring adherence to safety standards and procedures, overseeing the implementation of corrective actions identified through audits, inspections, risk assessments, etc., and providing regular updates on various metrics to the Regional H&S department. Additionally, you will be involved in the development and execution of the H&S Regional Strategical Plan, ensuring it is fully aligned with the group's strategical plan, and managing Purchase Orders (POs) in SAP as required.

Risk assessment is another critical area of your role, requiring you to aid the regular conduct, training, and review of risk assessments in collaboration with local Health and Safety teams. Together with various functions, you will identify and implement mitigation strategies for risks, aiming to prevent injuries and adverse health outcomes, and report on the implementation status of these activities. You are also tasked with supporting the deployment of regional H&S policies, procedures, programs, and initiatives, ensuring they are in line with group standards, and assisting in the regional rollout of H&S projects and programs, including wellbeing initiatives.

Training and awareness constitute an essential part of your responsibilities, requiring you to continuously raise awareness about the importance of H&S across all levels of the organisation. Ensuring the training, coaching and development of site managers.  

Monitor and drive timely closure of actions agreed in response to health & safety related findings, through audits, accidents, regulatory visits, statutory inspections, non-conformances etc. whilst coordinating with the Health Surveillance program and oversee the management of an effective First Aid service across the Alfreon site.

Additionally, you will maintain relations with relevant public authorities and manage external interactions during H&S-related inspections and visits. Your role includes assisting with legal reporting requirements, such as accident notifications and claims management, and ensuring compliance with all H&S-related licensing, notifications, and reporting, maintaining relevant documentation.

Finally, your contributions will extend to reporting regularly on H&S Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), corrective, and preventive actions, and aiding in the implementation of group Wellbeing initiatives within the region. You will also aid the regional governance structure for the Wellbeing program, in accordance with Group standards, ensuring a comprehensive approach to health and safety that fosters a safe and healthy work environment for all employees.

Who we are looking for:

Ferrero is seeking a Health & Safety Officer skilled in crafting and enforcing safety protocols. Ideally the candidate will be an adept Health, Safety, and Food Advisor with experience across multiple sites, whilst ideally have or working towards a NEBOSH Certificate or an HSE qualification at NVQ Level 3 or higher. Knowledge and experience of food hygiene standards or a qualification in Food Safety would also be beneficial. 

You should have a solid history of creating and implementing safety training programs, enhancing internal knowledge and skills across all levels, supported by your presentation and coaching skills. Hold exceptional communication abilities are crucial for engaging with both internal and external stakeholders, supporting the ability to influence, persuade and engage. Attention to detail and the capacity to independently drive initiatives, while also being an effective team player, are essential qualities for this position.
